A Biocycle unit is a packaged biological wastewater treatment system that processes effluent to a high standard using naturally occurring bacteria. Unlike a standard septic tank, which provides primary treatment only, a Biocycle unit treats wastewater to secondary standard — producing a cleaner effluent that places less demand on the percolation area and is less likely to fail over time.

Biocycle units are particularly suited to sites where soil percolation is marginal, where a standard septic tank has failed, or where planning conditions specify a secondary treatment system. They are fully approved by the EPA and are widely specified by Galway County Council for new planning permissions in areas where ground conditions do not support a conventional system.
